  • A: Viable adhered colonies on NO‐ and Ag+‐releasing xerogels after 3 h exposure to 108 cfu mL−1 Staphylococcus aureus. B: Viable adhered colonies on AG‐0, AG‐0/NO, AG‐1, and AG‐1/NO after an additional 6 h in bacteria‐free PBS (9 h total). Statistical differences between bracketed columns are given by “*” (P < 0.05) and “**” (P < 0.01). Columns denoted with (“*”) and (“**”) in the absence of a bracket indicate statistical differences from AG‐0. Theoretical additive killing (“theor.”) was determined by summing the individual bacterial log reductions of AG‐1 and AG‐0/NO. Values given represent the mean ± standard deviation of n = 3 xerogels from each composition.
