  • Evidence of a c‐di‐GMP dependent process inhibiting swarming motility in the ΔyhjHΔycgRΔbcsA background. A. Swimming motility is not significantly affected by overexpression of the potent di‐guanylate cyclase AdrA (pAdrA) in the ΔyhjHΔycgRΔbcsA background. B. Swarming motility is significantly affected by overexpression of the potent di‐guanylate cyclase AdrA (pAdrA) in the ΔyhjHΔycgRΔbcsA background. pAdrA = AdrA cloned in pBAD30. VC = vector control (pBAD30). Δflagellin is the negative control mutant of ΔfliCΔfljB UMR1. Results were documented after swimming and swarming motility occurred for 5 h and 7 h, respectively, at 28°C. Motility is expressed as percentage relative to the wild type UMR1. Bars show the mean of experimental results and error bars indicate standard deviation. Statistical significance is indicated by *P < 0.05 using a using paired, two tailed t‐test.
