  • Two classes of deterministic dynamics, close to the point of bifurcation. (A) Steady state (σ [feeding‐kernel width] = 2.1); (B) traveling wave (σ = 1.9). Heavy lines show the steady‐state spectra, the largest real parts of the eigenvalues of the Jacobians at the steady state being (A) −0.078 and (B) 0.027. (C) Manifold for the bifurcation as a function of feeding parameters β, σ, and A, where A is obtained from a grid of values of β and σ by iterating A to make the real part of the dominant eigenvalue of the Jacobian of the discretized steady state approximately zero (see Appendix B). Fixed parameters values are as given in Table 1.
