- Description:
- The lysosomal marker Lamp‐1 is recruited to phagosomes containing uninfected RBC or P. yoelii‐iRBC. Macrophages (a, b) or DC (c, d) were incubated with RBC (b, d) or iRBC at the schizont stage labelled with the fluorescent tracer DDAO (a, c). After 1 h of incubation, cultures were washed and incubated for one additional hour before fixation and staining for Lamp‐1. Representative confocal pictures of one out of three experiments are shown. Scale bar: 5 μm. (e) Quantification of Lamp‐1 positive phagosomes in macrophages and DC that had phagocytosed iRBC displayed as mean ± SD of triplicate counts. The images show both intracellular and extracellular RBC and iRBC, only intracellular cells have been considered for quantification.
