  • Chronic two‐bottle homecage ethanol and water intake, preference, and locomotor activity in male spared nerve injury (SNI) and sham‐operated mice. Four‐hour cycle pattern of A, alcohol drinking behavior, B, water intake, C, preference over water, and D, locomotor activity in sham (n = 12) and SNI (n = 12)–operated male mice. Both groups of mice show identical typical diurnal rhythmicity for drinking and locomotion, characterized by higher activity during the night active phase (grey shaded). Ethanol preference had the opposite pattern in both groups, with higher values during the day inactive phase (white). Twenty‐four‐hour measurement for E, ethanol and F, water intake, G, preference over water, and H, locomotor activity did not differ between SNI and sham mice. Mean values are given ±standard error of the mean (SEM)
