  • Relationships between (a) nAOU and nDIC, and (b) nAOU and nPA for MTW (1993: open squares, 1999: open triangles, 2000: open circles) and DSW (1993: solid squares, 1999: solid triangles, 2000: solid circles). We estimated the following regression lines in 1993 (dashed‐dotted line), 1999 (solid line), and 2000 (dashed line). (a) The linear regression equations are as follows: nDIC = (1.05 ± 0.05) nAOU + (2230 ± 5 (R = 0.99, 1993), nDIC = (1.02 ± 0.06) nAOU + (2241 ± 6) (R = 0.94, 1999), nDIC = (1.44 ± 0.12) nAOU + (2241 ± 6) (R = 0.90, 2000). (b) The regression lines were estimated by using the mean values of MTW and DSW in 1993 (nPA = 0.13 nAOU + 2396) and 1999 (nPA = 0.12 nAOU + 2395), respectively. On the other hand, it is difficult to estimate the line in 2000 due to the plots of nPA/nAOU in MTW in 2000 to be largely scattered. Since nPA with nAOU = 0 must remain constant with time, we estimated the line in 2000 (nPA = 0.36 nAOU + 2397) by using the mean values of MTW and DSW in 2000 and mean value of nPA with nAOU = 0 (2395 μmol kg−1) in 1993 and 1999.
