  • Hypothetical models of cytokinesis in Mollicutes. The first model implies formation of a classical Z-ring; the second model is based on motility of certain mycoplasma species, which allows them to pull the daughter cells apart with a subsequent membrane collapse in the furrow; the third model assumes that mycoplasmas might possess a mechanism of excessive membrane synthesis that stimulates unequal cell division in the same way as it occurs in L-forms of bacteria.
