  • Sequential application of cold with sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) vs. application of SLS alone assessed with transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin colour reflectance and visual scoring. Transepidermal water loss: SLS 1% in extra large Finn chambers (A) or 0·5% in large Finn chambers (B), application for 30 min under occlusion twice daily, alone and in combination with cold 15 °C for 10 min or cold 4 °C for six × 1·5 min. Chromameter a* values: SLS 1% in extra large Finn chambers (C) or 0·5% in large Finn chambers (D), application for 30 min under occlusion twice daily, alone and in combination with cold 15 °C for 10 min or cold 4 °C for six × 1·5 min. Visual score: SLS 1% in extra large Finn chambers (E) or 0·5% in large Finn chambers (F), application for 30 min under occlusion twice daily, alone and in combination with cold 15 °C for 10 min or cold 4 °C for six × 1·5 min.
