  • Our program can go portable by loading it on myRIO. (a) myRIO acquired images of two droplets being merged on a digital microfluidics device using a USB microscope, analyzed transferred images, calculated the area of the droplet on the right, and sent results to a smartphone over a Wi-Fi connection. (b) The Dashboard application on the smartphone received data from myRio and plotted area of the droplet as it increases with time after merging of the two droplets together. A virtual blue LED on Dashboard (blue circle on the smartphone screen) was set to turn on once the droplet area increases above 20 × 103 square pixels indicating merging of the two droplets. Droplets were 9 μL each and electrode size on the digital microfluidics device was 2 mm × 2 mm. Check supplementary video S10
