  • Changes in information content of the best model in Table I (7) after simplification of the temperature main effect from a third‐order polynomial (fixed factor) to a first‐order polynomial (linear effect). The best model according to Akaike's information criterion with small‐sample bias adjustment (AICc) is highlighted in bold (n = 313). Support for each model is expressed relative to the best model (Δmodel) and relative to the other two models examined (wmodel). All models predict growth rate (G, day−1) based on white muscle RNA (R, gRNA) and DNA (D, gDNA) concentrations, body mass (M, g), temperature as a fixed factor (F, four levels) and covariate (T, ° K) and a normally distributed error term (ε). K is the number of parameters, including the intercept and the error terms
