  • (a) Multimer analysis of vW factor of the patient (H.F.) and a normal plasma pool (1:2 and 1:5 dilutions, respectively). vWF multimer patterns were quantified by densitometry using the Aida Image Analzyer software (Raytest, Straubenhardt, Germany) (upper panel). Note the blurred structure of the vW factor triplets in the patient compared to pool plasma (lower panel). (b) Serum immunofixation electrophoresis (IFE) of the patient shows the presence of an IgM k paraprotein (upper panel). Note that the bands are atypical broadened, giving the impression that something is bound to the paraprotein. The lower panel shows IFE of a control patient with typical IgM k paraprotein.
