- Foraging efficiency of Cotesia glomerata parasitoids on plants infested with 10 first‐instar Pieris brassicae host caterpillars and 10 (low density) or 50 (high density) first‐ to second‐instar non‐host caterpillars (Mamestra brassicae, Plutella xylostella or Spodoptera exigua) in a background of plants infested with the same density of the same non‐host species in the outdoor tent experiment. (A) Percentage of hosts parasitised; (B) percentage of plants with parasitised hosts; (C) number of parasitised hosts per plant with parasitised hosts; (D) number of eggs per parasitised host. Data are all means ± SE. Numbers in bars indicate the number of tents per treatment, equal for all four analyses. Based on generalised linear mixed models, no significant effect of treatment (i.e. combination of density and non‐host species) was found for (A)–(D) or for non‐host density for (A)–(C) (α = 0.05). For (D) a significant effect of non‐host density was found based on a generalised linear mixed model (P = 0.047); different letters indicate differences based on least significant differences (α = 0.05).
