- Effects of cocaine (0.5 mg/kg/infusion) self‐administration on extracellular GLU and GABA levels in the ventral pallidum. Basal absolute level of extracellular GLU [panel (a)] and GABA [panel (c)] was measured 60 minutes before self‐administration session. These changes are plotted against the mean (±SEM) percent change in extracellular GLU [panel (b)] and GABA [(panel (d)] in the investigated groups of animals that either self‐administered cocaine (SA COC; square), received passively cocaine (YOKED COC; triangle) or received passively saline (YOKED SAL; circle) during 2‐hour self‐administration session (the data are the mean (±SEM) of 6–8 rats/group).
